History

Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Llangynwyd is a designated Welsh-medium school for boys and girls aged 11 to 19 maintained by Bridgend Unitary Authority. This is the only Welsh medium comprehensive school for the Unitary Authority. The school is located in the historic village of Llangynwyd and serves the whole Unitary Authority catchment area.

It serves a wide catchment area which includes urban areas (Maesteg and Porthcawl) and socially deprived and economically disadvantaged areas.

The school accepts pupils of all abilities. The school opened in September 2008 with 128 in year 7. For the academic year 2020-21, there are approximately 660 pupils on roll in years 7 to 13.

The headteacher was appointed to his post permanently in June 2016.
