Contacting the School
You can communicate via the following:
Telephone on
01656 815700
Email to
post@yggllangynwyd.pen-y-bont.cymru
We ask that parents outline the purpose of the communication so that a message can be passed on to the appropriate person.
Unfortunately, it’s not always possible to speak directly to a member of staff but we will endeavour to reply to any communication within 48 hours.
The school uses the Classcharts platform to report daily on learners’ contributions to school life. All parents are able to create an account to access your child’s profile. In addition to general information about your child’s contribution, the Physical Education department use this platform to share information about events and competitions.
The school’s social media platforms are a way of sharing general information and celebrating our learners’ achievements. They are not an official method of communication, and therefore comments/messages posted here are not monitored.
Illness and Absence
If a child is absent, we kindly as that the parent/carer contact the school before 09:00.
In order to process information regarding absence as effectively as possible, there is a direct line for parents/carers to record a message.
The number for the absence line is 01656 815708
In the instance of long term illness we ask parents/carers to arrange a meeting with the Head of Year to discuss how we can best support the learner.
The school doesn’t administer any medication. We ask that parents contact the school if there is a need for a learner to take any medication during school hours. Any medication should be handed in and kept securely in the main office / TyDerwen where a learner can access it under supervision.
Parents will need to provide a permission letter and clear instructions with the medication.
Attendance
Regular school attendance is an important part of giving learners the best possible chance of achieving their potential. Evidence suggests a strong correlation between attendance and academic achievement and attendance below 97% equates to missing at least 7 full days of education across the academic year. Low attendance is an important issue; however, we appreciate every case is different and will always work closely with families to improve the situation and offer support where possible.
The school appreciates the commitment of our learners and parents to strive for high attendance and celebrate our yearly attendance percentage which compares favourably with national statistics.
In exceptional circumstances where a parent/carer wants to request authorised absence for their child, a written request must be sent to the Headteacher.
